Vlog 3: Kids & the Internet: A Screencast

"Jentaculararundelcraigslist" is yet another blogger from my class. They wrote a post entitled "Is Internet Safe for Children?"

Intrigued by the concept and wanting to try out recording my screen while I doodle in photoshop, here is the fruit of my first labor! (Hopefully my second screencast will be more beautifully done!)

Voila! Vlog 3: A Screencast

Brony Wordle

My "Bronies and Breaking Free" essay has spiked in viewership quite a bit, so what better way to reward this than a lovely word map of the essay? Fitting of the original demographic, I have colored this wordle-generated grid in little-girl colors, which brines heavily embrace. "MLP" stands for "My Little Pony," and it all originated on "4Chan," so I am quite happy that those were my most re-occurring words. And who couldn't love the prominence of the word "friendship?"

Hope you enjoy :)

Actually Free-to-Use Stock Pics

Finding good images that you can actually freely use online has been nearly impossible… Especially if for commercial uses, sites like Shutterstock of Flickr, used heavily during school projects, are very cumbersome to use. However, thanks to ThisLittleAntithesis, I've been introduced to an all-new website, spun by Shutterstock!

Offset not only contains hundreds of stock photos, but they were taken by professional photographers. As the original article pointed out, a professional photo-shoot throws out so many good photos-- why not let the public use them? Although I personally feel like the artists could feel free to sue, seeing as they still technically own the images, I think that it is a swell idea, moving in the correct direction:

Sharing of culture. A common theme throughout this class has been how timid people feel in borrowing content-- is this okay? Can I get arrested for this? I wouldn't even know who to ask for rights of use for most online images, stock or otherwise.

I hope to see more projects such as Offset cropping up.

Caramelldansen

The Caramelldansen is an internet dance sensation, picturing "kawaii~moe~chibi" girls and characters in general doing an adorable dance. The characters have included Super Smash Brothers, Pokemon, Kingdom Hearts, and so much more.

Below is a rendition by yours truly; enjoy!

FIRST VLOG

GUYS I made a video blog, full of awkward shenanigans and featuring a song that I co-wrote… Fun to be had! Please comment with further suggestions, as this video was a shot in the dark! :)

Media Convergence: Miley Style

Our beloved internet is ever so entertaining, largely due ot the fact that it is everything. Really, though: books, newspapers, television, magazines, radio, you name it! It’s all a part of the internet. So, what happens when news hits the internet? Let’s take a look at Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” video:

A music video, right? So many spin-offs of her naked descent into madness ocurred. The most bizarre spin-off into internet culture was the photoshopping of Nicholas Cage’s face, but you don’t have to take my word for it! Follow the link to see a compilation of Wrecking Ball spoofs.

How is this media convergence? We took a normal music video (the normalcy is debatable, but I’ll hold my ground for now), and thrashed the music and video and news around on the internet until it became something of it’s own-- per fashion of the internet.
